TIPS FOR HEALTHY EATING AWAY FROM HOME

In today's hectic world with so many busy schedules, more and more people are eating away
from home. Eating out can be a challenge. At restaurants portions can be hefty, packed with
calories and saturated fats; not to mention the super-sized portions at the local fast food
restaurant.

Here are some healthful tips to make a meal away from home healthier:
• Ask how restaurant entrees are prepared and avoid fried foods or dishes served with heavy
sauces or gravies.
• Choose skinless chicken, fish or lean meat that's broiled, baked, poached or grilled.
• Choose low-fat dishes. Sometimes they even taste better than the high fat content dishes!
• Don't feel obligated to clean your plate. Eat a reasonable portion and ask for a carry out box.
• Choose steamed vegetables and salads as side dishes. Ask for dressings and butter on the
side so you can use them sparingly.
• If you crave a dessert, share it! Take the dessert home to share.
